Which test will be more accurate for a diabetes test?
Lately, I've been feeling very thirsty. So thirsty that, no matter how much I drink, I can't seem to not be thirsty. I've heard that's a symptom of diabetes so I decided to do a little research. The normal symptoms can be, considering my lifestyle, can be explained by other things. I don't feel more tired than I usually do. I don't have a job though not for lack of trying so I tend to sleep whenever, which is, lately, during the day. Sleeping during the day, regardless of how much sleep I get, tends to leave me feeling very sleepy anyways. The thirst, I assume could be because I haven't been drinking as much as I used to drink. As part of my research, I read about different ways to test at home. One way, was just by checking your fasting number. Another says to test your fasting number, eat something 60 70 " fast acting carbohydrates" and check every hour for three hours. I don't have health insurance and my mom, who I live with, can't afford to take me to the doctor right now so I wanted to check at home before I went to a doctor. So my question is. Which number will be most accurate? The fasting number alone? Or the second test, with all the testing after I have a little something to eat? And if it's the second test, what exactly qualifies as a fast acting carbohydrate?
Confused about diabetes test?
Ok so I just got back from the doctors office to pick up my test results. My Hemoglobin A1c test showed that im within range at 5.5... It shows that < 5.7 % of total Hgb and that < 5.7 is non diabetic. This tells me I am not diabetic. However it says that 5.7 6.4 is an increased risk for diabetes and that anything equal to 6.5 or greater is consistent with diabetes. So basically 5.5 is pretty darn close to the edge here. Now Im concerned about how big of a difference these numbers really are and how far I REALLY am from having an increased risk for diabetes. What can be done to get this number lower? I would ask the doctor but why pay for another visit when I might get answers online..Thank you

Home diabetes test? UK?
Hi,I have no clue about this kind of stuff... so sorry for a stupid question. Is there any home test kits you can buy online to check for diabetes? If so can anyone suggest any links to these kits within the United Kingdom... thank you. I had a blood test 2 weeks ago for a random glucose test, I believe I will need to do a fasting one, but I have a really bad reaction to blood tests and wont want to go for another for a good while yet... so was wondering if I could test from home as such .I am not diabetic... if anything I MAY be prediabetic. Don't worry, I will be going back to the doctors but not right now... my doctor said there was no worry from my random glucose test results... but I have become paranoid.

Please help!! 3 hour gestational diabetes test while being sick?
I took my 3 hour gestational diabetes test while being sick with cough and cold for almost 3 weeks. I just came to know that I failed the test. My 1 hour test showed the number as 152. So I was sent to the 3 hour test. My fasting glucose level for 3 hour test came back as normal but rest of the 3 are high. Has me being sick affected the results?
How do you make diabetes testing less painful?
I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Though... the cut offs annoy me because using one scale I wouldn't have been diagnosed with GD and the doctor didn't give me good instructions that would have increased the blood sugar level AND they tested on the fingertips instead of taking blood from the arm that would also have increased the number, I'm willing to do home testing and monitor to make sure that even if it is just pre diabetes it doesn't become a problem. The thing is... after today and having 4 fingers pricked, my fingers HURT. I'll admit it, I'm scared to prick my fingers. Add into this the doctor saying he believes I'll need insulin shots and I don't think I can do it. Does anyone have any tricks to get through this?

My 4yrs blood work to for her liver & diabetes, test showed high functioning liver, what does this mean?
My 4yr old daughter had to have some blood work done because of some symptoms she has been dealing with for quite sometime now. Her daughter ran blood work to see if she had diabetes, did a full blood count, check her thyroid and her liver. The test showed everything looked ok, except for the blood work they did on her liver. It came back high functioning liver. What does this mean or could it mean? The nurse that called me on the phone, said that's all she could tell me & that the doctor would like to see my daughter and I in his office on Oct. 2nd, to go over things further with me. I was anger that the nurse called me on the phone to tell me this and then nothing more. Now I have to worry til the 2nd of Oct. to find out more. My daughter has been experiencing the following things for the past 6 months or longer. 1. Frequent urination2. Sudden urges to go to the bathroom and not making it in time3. Sometimes she doesn't ever feel she has to pee, until she has already started to trickle in her pants. Then she gets up and runs to the bathroom.4. She says she is always hungry, but when I make her something to eat she only can seem to eat a few bites before feeling full or having pain in her stomach.5. She is ALWAYS thirsty She can never quench her thirst. 6. She complains of stomach pain everyday, but she says its not bad enough that she has to cry, its just uncomfortable. 7. She seems to not be able to tolerate different foods, like spaghetti or soda which I do not allow her to drink a lot of, maybe 2x's a month, she might get a cup of soda, if we are out to eat She seems to burp up a lot of her food. When she is going about her day, I will see that she has something in her mouth and when I ask her what it is, she says its food that came back up out her throat. Sounds like acid reflux to me. 8. Her doctor is concerned about her weight. She is tall for her age he said, but is only in the 25 % for her weight. He had me start her on pedi sure. 9. Seems to get tired out easily and quickly. 10. Asks to be carried a lot.11. Has low iron When she drinks juicey juice or pineapple juice it goes straight through her. I am not kidding you when, I say she has to pee, almost admittedly after she drinks it and then she pees atleast 4 times in a 15 mins time period. She has been checked for bladder infections, UTI's. She was seen by a Urelogist, the Urologist said, she has an over active bladder and it doesnt empty all the way when she goes to the bathroom. She goes back in Dec. for an ultrasound and further testing. The Urologistt put her on a medication to help so she does have to go to the bathroom so much but isnt working at all. What else could it be? What does a high functioning liver mean in a child? I am scared But, I want the answers. I dont understand why the nurse couldnt give me more detail.
